I love clay. Tactile. Rudimentary. Responsive. Clay and I submit to one another and work together to create functional pieces that combine modern form with bold, patterned surface decoration. Strong, clean shapes are enhanced with graphic motifs inspired from the richness and diversity of everywhere – leaves, bark, time, pebbles, fabrics, microbes, experiences, travel, loops, lines, light and dark. Ovals and asymmetry are transcendent to me, thus many of my pieces are thrown and altered, allowing limitless ways to enhance my work with hand built textured elements. Color is the sumptuous part of my artwork. I use it in complementary and celebratory ways. I am drawn to the cyclical nature of working with clay and the finished piece illustrating the doctrine of no beginning, no end; timelessness.
As a studio potter I have the opportunity to create functional ceramic ware that augments the rituals of daily life in an enchanting way. In our hurried world, using objects with emotional, imaginative and personal ties to the maker gives us a moment to reflect, slow down and feel satisfied.
I am driven by my passion to create, to use my hands, to work with an alluring, indigenous medium and be a part of an arts tradition. I will continue to grow as an artist and as an inhabitant of this planet. My intention, my adventure, my fascination is to continue to discover………where it will take me. Come along!
